These homemade St. Patrick’s Day treats are both nutritious and festive, featuring dog-friendly greens that will have your furry companion feeling the Irish spirit!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour for sensitive pups)
- 1 cup fresh spinach, packed
- ¼ cup fresh parsley (helps with breath freshening!)
- 1 ripe banana
- ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil (melted)
- 1-2 tablespoons water (if needed to adjust consistency)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a food processor, blend the spinach and parsley until finely chopped.
- Add the banana, applesauce, egg, and coconut oil to the processor and blend until smooth.
- Transfer the green mixture to a large bowl and gradually stir in the flour until a dough forms. The dough should be firm but pliable – add a little water if it’s too dry.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness.
- Cut into shamrock shapes using a cookie cutter, or simply use any dog bone or small cookie cutter you have.
- Place treats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges are golden and treats are firm.
- Allow to cool completely before serving to your pup.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week, or freeze for longer storage.
